What is an Otolaryngologist (ENT)?
Conditions affecting the head and neck systems can be treated by ENT specialists. This includes issues with the ears such as tinnitus, hearing loss, sudden deafness, itching, burning, leakage, swimmer's ear, infection, and pain. Allergies, sinusitis, and other nasal obstructions that can impair breathing and the sense of smell are all conditions that ENTs treat.
ENTs also diagnose and treat conditions of the throat, including problems swallowing, discomfort, tonsillitis, voice changes, laryngeal illnesses, and cancers of the mouth and throat. Infections, cranial nerve disorders, and tumors can all cause head and neck pain (benign or malignant). Unless your diagnostic tests reveal a problem that necessitates surgery, an otolaryngologist does not usually send you to a specialist.
