Optometry involves studying the eye and its related structures to diagnose and treat conditions that can affect them. She deals with regular vision care through vision tests and eye exams. The work also involves prescribing and fitting contact lenses and eyeglasses, monitoring eye conditions associated with diseases such as diabetes, providing vision therapy and low-vision aids, and managing and treating conditions like glaucoma and dry eye.

They provide comprehensive eye care including dispensing and refraction, diagnosing and managing eye diseases, and rehabilitating visual systems conditions. If required, the person will be referred to an ophthalmologist for further assistance. Both work together for providing the patient with integrated eye care.
