Stratasys manufactures rapid prototyping & direct digital manufacturing systems that employee proprietary FDM technology. The FDM process manufactures real 3-dimensional parts direct from 3D CAD data in a variety of production-grade thermoplastics, such as ABS, Polycarbonate, PPSF & various blends. The variety of materials allows part properties to be matched to the application. Real parts manufactured from FDM systems are used in the entire product development process from prototyping through manufacturing. As a result parts are used for conceptual prototypes, design verification, functionally testing, & even installed for end use. Because thermoplastics are stable, dimensional accuracy is fixed, which differs from many competitive processes, that produce parts that can lose tolerance due to environmental factors.
