BMTA (British Measurement & Testing Association) is the UK trade and technology association for laboratory-based organisations many of which are UKAS accredited. We represent our members' interests to bodies such as UKAS, DTI, BSI and EUROLAB and organise a wide range of technical events. Recent subjects include measurement uncertainty, LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems), ISO 17025 and the standards making process. Members' laboratories are concerned with analysis of water, air, soils, contaminated land, asbestos, stack gas, food and drink, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas industry, nuclear energy, paper and packaging. Members are also involved in electrical testing, EMC, acoustics and noise monitoring, vibration testing, climatic testing, fire and explosion hazards, metallurgy, biotechnology, hardness testing, trading standards, pressure measurement and weights and measures.
