Kids Day, an initiative of the Australian Toy Association ATA, was established in 1999. The idea for Kids Day was born from a desire to support needy Australian children. The ATA was keen to give back to those less fortunate and a decision was made to invest in a sustainable program that engaged both the toy industry and consumers alike. To date, close to $1.4 million has been raised, benefiting thousands of children across the country. Every year, the first Saturday in June has been designated Kids Day. The week leading up to and on Kids Day is when a percentage from all toy purchases at participating retail stores are donated to a childrens charity. In 2004, participating retail stores are Big W, Myer, Toy Kingdom, Toys R Us and Toyworld. The Kids Day campaign is funded by a number of ATA members and this years the official Kids Day sponsors are Hasbro and Lego.
